Path of exile vs diablo 3 2017 reddit8/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Why is min maxing being a requirement such a great thing? Also I do think the skill system in PoE looks interesting but it is a barrier of entry for a lot of people including myself.ĭiablo, on the other hand, is never difficult at all, so they can balance the game around fun, and having more long-cd abilities that you can use to feel powerful. Even though you use one or two abilities to kill stuff, the underlying mechanics behind it are just overall more interesting, which is what make the game great. Maybe it's not in the mechanics but I don't think that makes it inherently better or worse.įor builds to work in PoE, they need to be very clean and crisp, focusing on buffing one ability to the max. This is not to say I think PoE is easy but there is difficulty in Diablo if you want it. I would safely say that nobody's first character in PoE makes it through the game if they don't get or seek any help.įirst off let me challenge the "PoE is actually hard." If you think a 85 grift on a hardcore Demon Hunter is easy then please link me the video without having over 1k paragon. Anybody can beat Diablo 3 the entire way through. If you try to play the game without doing any research, you will get stuck. The difference is that PoE is actually hard. So I guess really you do have the wrong perception about PoE, in that it's basically the same amount of shit as d3. So a passive couple of abilities that get cast on damage taken, 2 shortish cooldowns to cast, main damage dealer, movement ability, and a secondary skill you cast to proc more damage.īasically the same amount of skills used for both builds, but PoE much more active based around shorter cooldowns, and also has more skills that are just getting passively cast due to linking with other stuff. P Protective setup immortal call, flame golem pet both cast on damage taken Quad frostbolt totems (fairly passive easy build)Ī 2xVaal Haste ("cooldown" relies on killing so length of cooldown varies, but generally under 10 seconds to get enough souls to cast again) So a passive ability, active dash, 2 cooldowns that are long, main damage dealer, and a generator. Now that I kind of thought about it, let's look at the two things I've played in PoE and Diablo recently. Now for PoE, you do have gem swapping on the fly and such which still uses the same skill gem as a base, but you have to swap the support gems on the fly for single target/bosses/culling/etc which gives it a little more variety. At most it's just shit you have to spam to give you buffs to use your one or two skills, so it's just busywork in diablo whereas it's just a buff you turn on again if you die in PoE.īuffing up one or two abilities will always be king in a min-maxing world. ![]() There aren't a lot of builds that I'm actively using a lot of skills. You can have a shit ton of abilities, but since you can only have one or two six linked skills (chest and then a 2H weapon if your build uses that) you're generally going to have Auras + one or two skills that you use, especially with speed meta being king. That's the blessing and curse aspect of PoE. I salute GGG and have given a ton of money and playtime to PoE since its release but I want to play casual for myself not invest in participating in an entire artificial (and arguably meaningless) economy simulator just to kill some mobs from time to time. I don't want to buy someone else's drops. It's my hero, my game, my entertainment investment, my adventure. So you have no choice but to play the auction house mini-game to farm currency to buy gear. Have one build with one character? Maybe this isn't such a big deal.īut once you've played through a few builds and have a few characters and you're on your third or fourth skill tree reset rebuild of ALL of them.screw that!įinally, for people who want to play casual/self-found, the drop rate in PoE is so anemic that it makes the time investment ridiculous in comparison to D3. This was the killer for me - you can finally get a character leveled up and have self-found some basic items for a build (who the hell wants to BUY your hero's gear?!), only to find that the next patch resets the skill tree AGAIN and so you have to rebuild your character again.
